Why trades lose work to missed calls
You cannot answer on a job
Under a sink, up a ladder or in a crawl space, the phone rings and you leave it. The customer calls the next name on the list.
People call the first number that picks up
Someone with a leaking pipe or no heating is not browsing. They keep ringing until somebody answers, and being the first to answer is often what wins the job.
Evenings and weekends are when problems start
Burst pipes and dead boilers do not wait for Monday. The calls come when you are off, and an agent can take every one of them while you decide in the morning, or straight away, what to do.
Details get lost on the way to you
A note on a scrap of paper or a voicemail with half an address costs you a wasted trip or a customer. Every call arrives as a written summary with the name, address and problem.
Example call to Sparks Electric
- Assistant: Hi, you've reached Sparks Electric. I'm an AI assistant. How can I help?
- Caller: Half the outlets in my kitchen just stopped working.
- Assistant: I'm sorry about that. Is there a burning smell, or sparks, or anything hot?
- Caller: No, nothing like that. They just have no power.
- Assistant: Thanks. Could I have your name and the address for the visit?
- Caller: Dana Brooks, 42 Alder Street.
- Assistant: Thank you, Dana. Our next opening is tomorrow between 9 and 11. Shall I book it?
- Caller: Yes please.
- Assistant: You're booked for tomorrow, 9 to 11. If you smell burning or see sparks, please call the emergency services first.
- Visit booked: tomorrow 9 to 11
- Name, address and problem recorded
- Alert sent to the owner by text message
What it does for a trade business
Takes the job details
Asks what you tell it to ask: the name, the address, what is wrong and how urgent it is. Everything arrives as a written summary, so you can plan the day without calling back to ask.
Books the visit
Checks your calendar and books the slot in Google Calendar or Outlook, or tells the caller you will call back, whichever you prefer.
Alerts you where you already look
A text message, WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Microsoft Teams or email arrives when the call ends. For urgent jobs it can transfer the call to your mobile or an on-call number.
Calls customers back
Places reminder calls the day before a visit and follow-up calls after a quote. Anyone who asks not to be called again is never called again.
Gives your prices and areas
Callout fees, the areas you cover, your hours and the jobs you do not take, in the words you choose. If a question is not covered, it takes a message and tells you.
Keeps your lead list
Adds each call to a Google Sheet, Airtable, Notion, HubSpot or Pipedrive, so every enquiry is in one place and none depends on a scrap of paper.
Questions from home services
Can it handle emergency call-outs?
WePickUp is not an emergency service, but you can tell it which problems count as urgent. It then transfers the call to your mobile or an on-call number, or sends you an alert straight away. For danger to life, such as gas or fire, it can tell callers to contact the emergency services first.
Will it give quotes?
Only the figures you give it, such as a callout fee or a price list. For anything else it takes the details of the job and tells you, so you can quote. It does not make prices up.
I work alone. Is it still worth it?
Yes. Many tradespeople use one agent and one phone number. Pay as you go has no monthly fee, so a quiet month costs only the minutes used.
Can I keep my phone number?
Yes. Forward calls from your current number, or bring a number you already own. You can also buy a new number in the app in the US, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Ireland and Australia.
Does it work with my scheduling software?
It books into Google Calendar and Outlook and works with Cal.com and Calendly. Other tools connect through Zapier, Make and n8n. It has no direct link to field-service software today.
Will customers know it is an AI?
Yes. It says so in its first sentence on every call, and it will tell anyone who asks. It never pretends to be a person.
How much does it cost for a trade business?
Pay as you go is $0.20 a minute with no monthly fee. If your phone is busy, Small is $59 a month with 300 minutes included, and Medium is $249 a month with 1,500 minutes included. Each phone number is $1 a month, and the first 60 minutes are free.
