Why law firms lose clients to unanswered calls
Lawyers are rarely at their desks
Court, client meetings and depositions fill the day. A caller with a legal problem wants to talk now, and many will contact the next firm rather than leave a message and wait.
People call when they are in trouble
Accidents, arrests and family emergencies do not keep office hours. A call at nine in the evening that reaches a calm voice is far more likely to become a client than one that reaches a voicemail box.
Intake costs time before it brings revenue
Many calls come from people with questions you will not take on, and staff time goes into every one. The agent takes the name, number and a short description, and you decide which calls to return.
Missed calls leave no trace
When someone calls and hangs up, you never find out who they were. Every call here has a record and a summary, so nothing falls through the cracks.
Example call to Hartley & Moss Law
- Assistant: Hello, you've reached Hartley and Moss Law. I'm an AI assistant. How can I help?
- Caller: I was in a car accident last week and I think I need a lawyer.
- Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. I can't give legal advice, but I can take your details and book a consultation with one of our lawyers. May I have your name?
- Caller: Maria Lopez.
- Assistant: Thank you, Maria. Was anyone injured, and have you spoken to an insurance company yet?
- Caller: I hurt my neck, and yes, I gave them a short statement.
- Assistant: Noted. A lawyer can see you Thursday at 10:00 or Friday at 2:00. Which is better?
- Caller: Thursday.
- Assistant: Booked for Thursday at 10:00. We'll call this number if anything changes.
- Consultation booked: Thursday 10:00

What it does for a law firm
Takes the details of every enquiry
Asks the questions you set, such as the name, the number, the type of matter and when it happened, and puts the answers in the summary. It does not give legal advice, and it says so.
Books consultations
Checks your lawyers' availability and books the consultation straight into Google Calendar or Outlook, and works with Cal.com and Calendly.
Sorts the urgent from the routine
Tell it which kinds of call need a lawyer straight away. It can transfer those to a number you choose, or alert you by text message, WhatsApp, Slack or Microsoft Teams, and take a message for the rest.
Speaks your clients' language
Answers in 32 languages, including English, French, Spanish, German, Arabic and Russian, so a caller can describe their problem in the language they are most comfortable in.
Keeps your records current
Logs calls as contacts and notes in HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive or GoHighLevel, or adds them to a Google Sheet, Airtable or Notion database.
Honest, and under your control
Always tells callers it is an AI. Recording is off until you turn it on. You choose what it asks and what it must never say. What is said on your calls is never used to train models and never sold.
Questions from law firms
Does the AI give legal advice?
No. You tell it not to, and it says plainly that it cannot give legal advice. It then takes the caller's details so a lawyer can respond. You write what it may and may not say.
Can it take a message for a particular lawyer?
Yes. Tell it who handles what, and it takes the message with that lawyer's name in the summary, so the right person sees it.
What about confidential information?
We suggest keeping the agent to intake basics: a name, contact details, the type of matter and the date. Recording is off until you switch it on, call data is never used to train models or sold, and you can export or delete it at any time. Your firm decides what it asks.
Can it deal with urgent matters?
WePickUp is not an emergency service. You tell the agent which kinds of call are urgent, and it can transfer those to a lawyer who is on call or send you an alert straight away. Callers with an emergency can be pointed to the emergency services.
Does it work with my calendar and case software?
It books into Google Calendar and Outlook and works with Cal.com and Calendly. It logs calls in HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive and GoHighLevel, and reaches other tools through Zapier, Make and n8n. It has no direct link to legal case-management software today.
Will callers know it is an AI?
Yes. It says so in its first sentence on every call, and it will tell anyone who asks. It never pretends to be a person.
How much does it cost for a law firm?
Pay as you go is $0.20 a minute with no monthly fee. A busier firm can use Small ($59 a month, 300 minutes included) or Medium ($249 a month, 1,500 minutes included), and larger firms can talk to us about Enterprise. Each phone number is $1 a month, and the first 60 minutes are free.
