Why restaurants miss calls
The phone rings loudest at the busiest time
Between six and eight o'clock every pair of hands is serving, and the calls for tonight's tables go unanswered.
Reservations are lost to voicemail
A diner who wants a table on Saturday often calls two places. The first one to answer gets the booking.
The same questions, every day
Are you open on Monday, do you have vegan dishes, is there parking, can you take a group of twelve. Each call is short, and together they pull your host away from the door.
Enquiries arrive after the kitchen closes
Private events, large parties and next week's bookings come in when nobody is there to answer. The agent takes the details so you can follow up in the morning.
Example call to Olive & Ash
- Assistant: Hi, you've reached Olive and Ash. I'm an AI assistant. How can I help?
- Caller: Hi, a table for six on Saturday at 8, please.
- Assistant: Saturday at 8 for six is available. Can I take a name and a phone number?
- Caller: Priya, and it's 555 0142.
- Assistant: Thanks, Priya. Is there an allergy or an occasion I should note?
- Caller: It's a birthday, and one guest is gluten free.
- Assistant: Noted: a birthday and one gluten-free guest. Your table for six is booked for Saturday at 8.
- Table for 6 booked: Saturday 8:00 pm
- Note: birthday, one gluten-free guest
- Summary sent to the host on Telegram
What it does for a restaurant
Takes reservations
Checks the calendar you connect for open times and books the table in Google Calendar or Outlook, with the name, the number, the party size and any notes.
Answers questions about the menu and the room
Opening hours, the menu, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, parking, the dress code and how to find you. You write the answers, and it keeps to them.
Handles events and large parties
Collects the date, the number of guests and what the caller has in mind, and sends the enquiry to you or your events manager. It does not promise a price or a date you have not approved.
Writes down takeout requests
Takes what the caller wants, their name and number, and sends it to your phone or channel for the kitchen to confirm. It does not take payment.
Speaks your guests' language
Answers in 32 languages, including English, French, Spanish, German, Arabic and Russian, which helps where you serve tourists and regulars alike.
Tells you what happened
A summary of every call goes to Telegram, WhatsApp, Slack, Microsoft Teams, text message or email, and bookings can be added to a Google Sheet.
Questions from restaurants
Does it know when a table is really free?
It checks the calendar you connect and books into open times. If you have rules, such as a largest party size or last seating, put them in its instructions. It does not have a direct link to OpenTable, Resy or other reservation apps today.
Can it take takeout orders?
It can write down what the caller wants, with their name and number, and send that to your phone or channel. It does not take payment or connect to point-of-sale systems today.
What about allergies?
It only gives the information you have written for it. For serious allergy questions we suggest telling it to take the details and pass the call to a member of staff, who can answer with certainty.
Can it handle a busy Friday night?
Yes. It picks up on the first ring, so your team does not have to stop serving to answer. Anything that needs a person is sent to you as a message, or transferred to a number you choose.
Will callers know it is an AI?
Yes. It says so in its first sentence on every call, and it will tell anyone who asks. It never pretends to be a person.
How much does it cost for a restaurant?
Pay as you go is $0.20 a minute with no monthly fee. A busy restaurant can use Small ($59 a month, 300 minutes included) or Medium ($249 a month, 1,500 minutes included). Each phone number is $1 a month, and the first 60 minutes are free.
